G2 Net-Zero LNG has announced plans to build a world-scale blue ammonia plant in Southwest Louisiana.
Originally, the company was going to build a Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) plant in Cameron Parish, and filed the application in March 2015. On March 29 of this year, the company withdrew that application.
In an Advocate report, Anne Rolfes, director of the Louisiana Bucket was quoted as saying the company’s decision to not follow through with the plans to build an LNG facility was “great news for Cameron Parish,” adding that the “fragile coast of Southwest Louisiana “should be a fishing paradise – not an industrial wasteland.”
Three LNG facilities are located in Cameron Parish, now.
The Bucket Brigade has been reporting about Cameron Parish LNG plants that have not adhered to certain permit requirements and how those requirements aren’t enforced.
They are also vocal about LNG exports, which doesn’t help lower natural gas and electricity costs here.
The Louisiana Bucket Brigade partners with communities near industrial sites that pollute air, water and soil to help create a prosperous, pollution-free and just state, where people and the environment are valued over profit, according to its website.
Blue ammonia is produced from hydrocarbons, like regular or “gray” ammonia, but the CO2 emitted during production is sequestered via carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) technology.
Blue ammonia can be used in fertilizers and as fuel.
