Ashley Vallejo shut Northwestern State down for a second straight game to carry McNeese State to a 2-0 win over the Demons at Cowgirl Diamond.
The win gives the Cowgirls (28-12, 11-1) the series win after the teams split a doubleheader Friday.
Vallejo (9-7) overpowered the Demons in the second game Friday, striking out 14 in a complete game one-hitter. Saturday, she allowed one hit in five ⅓ innings, striking out three and walking three. She has won 14 straight Southland Conference games over the past two seasons.
Lindsay Davis left two runners stranded in both the sixth and seventh innings to earn the save.
“Ashley was up to the test again today,” McNeese head coach James Landreneau said. “She was excellent and was commanding the zone. Her pitch count got high towards the end after two days of work so we decided to go to Davis. She has been great for us all year out of the pen. She attacked the zone, stayed composed and was able to pitch us out of a jam at the end.”
Mariana Torres singled with two outs to score Rylie Bouvier in the first inning. Jada Munoz doubled with two outs in the top of the seventh to add an insurance run.
Northwestern State (19-17, 6-6) threatened in the sixth when Ashlyn Walker reached on an infield single and Bailie Ragsdale walked. Davis relieved Vallejo and escaped the jam with a fly ball and strikeout.
In the seventh, the Demons got two on with two outs after singles by Makenzie Chaffin and Tristin Court, but Davis got a strikeout to end the game.
