As part of an ongoing effort to clean and beautify the town, Lake Arthur will host a community event on Monday, April 17 in conjunction with a statewide litter removal initiative.
The cleanup campaign is part of Love the Boot Week, Louisiana’s largest weeklong litter campaign, held during Earth Week, April 17-23.
“Sportsman’s Paradise won’t be litter free overnight, but by coming together during Love the Boot Week, we can bring awareness to the issue and take steps toward achieving a more beautiful Louisiana,” Susan Russell, executive director of Keep Louisiana Beautiful said in a press release.
Lake Arthur Alderwoman Debbie Abshire-Sonnier said school groups, businesses, civic organizations, families and individuals are being asked to take pride in their community and join the cleanup initiative 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 17.
Volunteers will be working to pick up litter in the areas of Third Street and under the bridge on Hwy. 14 east.
“The purpose of the clean up is to beautify and continue to keep the town clean,” Abshire-Sonnier said. “It is important that we not litter and it is important to get the community involved.”
The town launched an Adopt a Block program earlier this year urging residents, families, businesses, school groups and others to adopt an area and keep it litter-free.
This is the town’s first time to participate in the Love the Boot campaign.
Volunteers can register online at www.lovetheboot.org or by contacting the Lake Arthur Town Hall at 337-774-2211.
Gloves, safety vests, grabbers, trash bags and other supplies will be available for pickup at the Lake Arthur Town Hall during regular business hours.
Last year, 8,476 volunteers removed 293 tons of litter across the state at 280 Love the Boot events held in 54 parishes.
