Anderson said Dupuis and the female victim got into an altercation over a personal matter when he attacked the victim with a machete on the street. The two were acquaintances, he said.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to the Jennings American Legion Hospital with moderate injuries. She was treated and released, Anderson said.

Dupuis was also taken to the hospital to be treated for self-inflicted wounds he received during the attack.

Dupuis fled the scene following the attack, but was apprehended about three blocks away, Anderson said.

Several witnesses observed and assisted police with locating and arresting Dupuis without further incident, he said.
