In this edition of the Triple Play, staff writers Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux discuss area baseball and softball.
Which is the most interesting baseball game on this week’s schedule?
WA: St. Louis Catholic at South Beauregard, today. The Golden Knights have won seven games in a row, outscoring opponents 75-16 during the streak. St. Louis has also won seven straight, behind a strong pitching staff that has allowed 13 runs in the streak.
RA: East Beauregard at Gueydan, today. The Trojans have been on a roll lately, winning eight consecutive games, averaging 15.3 runs per game. East Beauregard goes for the sweep of Gueydan after beating the Bears 14-2, which would give it a two-game lead on the rest of District 5-1A.
Which is the best softball game?
WA: Sam Houston at New Iberia, today. First place in District 3-5A will be on the line as both teams enter the game undefeated in league play. The Broncos have scored 75 runs in their last five games.
RA: Iowa at Kinder, today. Kinder has one eight of its last nine games, but Iowa is looking to get back into the District 3-3A race and has a powerful offense that has scored 10 or more runs in four of its last six games. Iowa has big hitters in Kamryn Broussard, Kamryn Howard and Kylie Boudreaux.
Name a player to watch.
WA: Westlake’s Kash Martin has four consecutive multi-hit baseball games, going 11-for-14 with a home run, eight runs and six RBIs in that span. Martin has scored and driven in a run in all four games and earned a pitching win as well. The Rams host Lake Charles College Prep today in a District 3-3A game.
RA: Senior infielder Sam Ardoin has hit safely in eight straight, including a string of five multi-hit games batting leadoff for the nonselect Division I No. 3-ranked Sam Houston Broncos, who host Carencro today. He has four extra-base hits in his last four games.
