The missing persons case of Ella Goodie — which has received national news coverage and was featured last year on NBC’s “Dateline” program — has been turned over to the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office for review.

The 32-year-old Lyft driver from Scott was last seen on March 9, 2022, giving a ride to someone from Louisiana to Texas.

Louisiana State Police previously told the American Press that Ella’s black 2012 Audi Q5 had been found 13 hours away in St. Joseph, Mo., and that “investigators from Louisiana State Police, Scott Police Department and the St. Joseph Police Department will continue to work together to locate Ella Quiana Goodie who is still missing.”

On May 3, 2022, State Police posted an update on their Facebook page stating that “based on investigative techniques and witness statements, detectives and investigators have transitioned from a missing person’s case to a homicide investigation.”

During the “Dateline” segment, Trooper Sgt. Derek Senegal said Goodie was last seen driving her 2012 Audi Q5 around the Calcasieu Parish area with passenger Brandon Francisco, 36, of Mansura.

Senegal said at that time Francisco was a person of interest but had not been charged.

Two weeks after Goodie’s disappearance, Francisco was arrested in an unrelated 2018 shooting. Rapides Parish District Attorney Phillip Terrell said the case involved an alleged outstanding drug debt. Francisco — who was initially arrested on a warrant for failing to appear for a bond hearing in that case — was arrested in the same city in which Goodie’s car was discovered.

Francisco ultimately pleaded guilty to an attempted second-degree murder charge and was sentenced earlier this month to 30 years in prison.

Calcasieu DA spokesperson Bethany Bryant on Tuesday that their office has received the Goodie case file and are reviewing the material. She said once their office is done with the review, it will be taken to the grand jury.
