Layssard scores 34, Northwood-Lena wins Select Div. IV title

Omarion Layssard poured in 34 points to lead Northwood-Lena to a 73-56 win over Lincoln Prep in the Select Division IV state championship game on Saturday.
The Gators pulled away in the third quarter, extending a four-point halftime lead to 13 by the start of the fourth quarter.
Layssard scored 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Gators held off Lincoln comeback attempts.
He was named the game’s Most Outstanding Player, adding 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Randarius Morris had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Northwood-Lena.
Bralyn Mayfield had 32 points and nine rebounds for Lincoln Prep.

The Rams held the Chargers to 16 percent shooting in the game and just two points in the third quarter to win a state title for the second straight season.
Carver outscored Madison Prep 12-2 in the third quarter to take control of the game, extending its two-point halftime lead to 12.
Madison Prep missed all 10 field goal attempts in the third quarter and finished the game 1-for-19 from three point range.
Carver guard Jaylon Hicks was named Most Outstanding Player after scoring 11 points and grabbing six rebounds.
Josh Smith led Madison Prep with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

No. 1 Port Allen dominated down the stretch on Saturday at the LHSAA state basketball championships to win its fourth consecutive state championship.
Port Allen (29-4) beat No. 3 Winnfield (26-5) 73-58 in the Division III select title game.
Leading 49-44 heading into the fourth quarter, the Pelican outscored the Tigers 24-12 over the final eight minutes.
Isaiah Howard led the Pelicans with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Elliot McQuillan added 20 points and eight rebounds. Aries Lewis had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Port Allen built up a 21-11 lead in the first quarter, but the Tigers battled back in the second led by 10 points from Jaylon Jackson, who finished with 21 points.Winnfield led 33-31 at halftime.
Winnfield’s last lead came with 3:19 left in the third quarter on a layup by Keithan Hamilton after Manuel Espejel block on the defensive end. Port Allen took back the lead, 43-42, for good on Isaiah Howards floater in the lane with 2:45 left in the third quarter.

Stan Levy made a go-ahead free throw with 34 seconds left to give the Bears the lead for good.
Ben McCurry added a pair of free throws with nine seconds remaining.
Catholic scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to take a 48-44 lead. Scotlandville tied the game four times in the quarter but never went ahead.
Hornets center Dorian Booker scored 31 points.
Connor Green led Catholic with 14 points. Dennis Hebert scored 13 and Robert Gifford added 11.
