Bossier dominates final 2 minutes for state title

The Bossier Bearcats beat the Carroll Bulldogs 42-33 for the Division II non-select state championship Friday at Burton Coliseum.
The Bearcats closed the game with a 9-1 run over the last 2 minutes after the Bulldogs had pulled within a point.
Tahj Roots scored 10 points in the fourth quarter for the Bearcats, jump-starting the late run with four free throws and added a layup after making a steal.
Roots finished with 14 points. Lakavin Thomas was named Most Outstanding Player after scoring 13 points and adding nine rebounds.
Ricktavion Johnson led Carroll with 12 points and five assists.

A Trinston Brown basket with 15 seconds left gave the Hurricanes the lead for good as North Central claimed its fourth championship in five years.
Devion Lavergne blocked a shot in the final 10 seconds to preserve the win. He scored 23 points and was named Most Outstanding Player.
Franklin trailed by five points entering the fourth quarter but rode the hot hand of Dylan Bell, who scored 10 points in the quarter, the last two of which put Franklin ahead 53-49.
Bell finished with 16 points, making all eight of his field goal attempts.
McKennis Savoy had 17 points and nine rebounds for North Central.
Jay’Shaun Johnson and J’kylon Ceaser scored 12 points each for Franklin.

Isidore Newman held off a late rally after leading 37-19 heading into the fourth quarter. Calvary got within 42-35 with 2:05 left on a Kameron Kennon bucket. Calvary outscored Newman 23-15 in the fourth quarter.
Kennon finished with 15 points to lead the Cavaliers.
Newman won its second consecutive state championship, led by MVP Christopher Lockett who finished with 16 points, shooting 50 percent.
Division V
Avoyelles Charter. . . . . 54
Family Christian. . . . . . . 41
Avoyelles Charter fell behind 8-0 but the Vikings hit a strong momentum swing to win their first state championship.
Family Christian, the defending champion, got back within 35-34 by the fourth quarter, but the Vikings pulled away.
Jalen Brown earned game MVP honors with 22 points to lead the Vikings. Talik Williams and Armonii Benjamin added 13 points apiece.
Jordan Jones led FCA with 10 points.
