Suspect tries to drive off with deputy’s arm caught in window

A man is in custody after attempting to drive off with a Calcasieu Sheriff’s deputy’s arm caught inside the window.

Deputies patrolling in the area of the 100 block of Vine Street in Sulphur initiated a stop on a white Toyota Camery with expired paper tags at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 36-year-old Clausy Bernard.

Deputies say when they attempted to speak with the driver, he rolled up his window, with the deputy’s arm inside and attempted to drive off. Deputies shot at the suspect’s car window, in order to free the deputy.

A search for the suspect began and he was later located and taken into custody. It was also learned Bernard is wanted on out of state warrants.

CPSO deputies and detectives are currently continuing the investigation.
