New urgent care opens: Facility at Ryan Street and W. Sale Road will serve McNeese students, general public

A new urgent care clinic opened its doors here Monday. Located at 4100 Ryan St., Lake Charles, at the corner of Ryan Street and West Sale, the newest Ochsner Christus facility will serve the public, and it will offer health services to McNeese State University students. Urgent care is a crucial treatment option for injuries or illnesses that are not life threatening but need immediate attention.
The 5,600-square-foot clinic has six exam rooms, two treatment rooms, x-ray imaging, onsite lab services and for McNeese students, five counseling offices.
Dr. Jordan Harry, one of the medical directors of Ochsner Urgent Care Health Groups and Medical Director of Student Health and of Quality and Education described the new urgent care as “without a doubt, the nicest clinic we have in our service line.”
He said the clinic would serve the public’s acute medical needs and “get people back to work or back to school, wherever you’re needed as soon as possible.”
The clinic offers a variety of walk-in services for adults and children at least six months old. The new clinic is equipped to treat many common conditions such as cough, cold, sore throat, fever or flu-like symptoms, urinary tract infections, earaches, pinkeye, rash or skin irritation, sinus problems, stomach aches, allergies, cuts needing stitches, minor burns, sprains, and broken bones. The clinic will offer rapid COVID-19 testing and flu shots.
Now McNeese students will not need to go to a hospital to receive an X-ray.
Ashley Desmoreaux will be the clinic’s nurse practitioner. The Lake Charlest native and McNeese nursing program undergraduate is a Board Certified Medical Examiner and able to provide physicals for CDL drivers.
“What an amazing opportunity, the Christus and Ochsner partnership and now this trio of partners. Not only is this another urgent care I can go to when I injure myself in another part of town, but an asset for the university, which is a keystone for our community in Southwest Louisiana, for our students, the staff and for our student athletes. This is just game changing for all of us,” said Patricia Prudhomme, executive director of development of the Christus Ochsner Southwestern Louisiana Foundation.
Initially, the clinic will operate on a modified schedule of 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Hours of operation will increase. By June, the clinic will operate 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on weekends.
