On Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, our beautiful wife, mother, and sister, Sandra (Marchand) Solomon, peacefully passed away at the age of 80. Sandra was born on Nov. 6, 1942, in Lake Charles, La., to Willie Marchand and Maybell (Leblanc) Marchand. She married Junius Solomon and raised a family of four loving children and two grandchildren. They resided in Blacksburg, Virginia then in Willingboro, New Jersey.
Sandra was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Corpus Christi (Catholic) Church in Willingboro, New Jersey where she served as vocalist, organist, cantor, and member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Sandra was devoted to the Blessed Mother and the Blessed Sacrament and lived a life that exemplified love, joy, and peace.
Sandra inherited a devotion to music, community service, and education and spent her life in service of those things. She was an amazing cook, seamstress, interior decorator, math wizard, vocalist, and musician (flute and piano). She acquired a Degree in Chemistry from Xavier University in New Orleans and was the first black research assistant at Tulane Medical School researching cancer and the cure for the common cold.
