Three area teams play in semis today at LHSAA Marsh Madness

Two-time defending state champion St. Louis Catholic headlines a busy day for Southwest Louisiana teams at the girls basketball state championship tournament in Hammond.
The No. 3 Saints (26-6) will play No. 2 Vandebilt Catholic (21-2) in a Division II select semifinal at 4:45 p.m. The Saints have won 10 consecutive playoff games and has reached the state championship game in each of the past four seasons. Senior guard Paris Guillory scored 43 points in the team’s quarterfinal win over De La Salle.
In the first game of the day, non-select Division III top seed Rosepine (26-7) will play No. 5 Union Parish (22-5). The Eagles have won 12 of their last 13 games, with the lone loss coming to Division IV finalist Oakdale.
That game will be followed by No. 4 South Beauregard (25-7) facing top seed Wossman (28-2) in a Division II semifinal. The Lady K’s have won their two playoff games by an average of 26.5 points. Jalyn Williams scored 15 points and Raelyn Gunter added 13 in a quarterfinal win over LaGrange.
