Adam “Leroy” Demarets

Adam Leroy Demarets, 97, of Lake Charles, passed away in his sleep on Feb. 26, 2023, at a local facility. Leroy was born in Big Lake on Jan. 22, 1926, the last of nine children, to Joseph Toussaint Demarets and Azeline Hebert Demarets.
After graduating high school he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Leroy later became a meat cutter and worked for several local grocery stores including, the A&P, Weingarten’s and Market Basket. Leroy will long be remembered by his infectious smile, sweet gentle personality and his mesmerizing blue eyes. Throughout his life he was an avid gardener, spending many hours cultivating and caring for his vegetables, many of which he gave away.
Those left to cherish his memory are three daughters; Debra Demarets Thompson, Pamela Demarets Youngblood and husband Dennis, Dawn Demarets Butler and husband Tony; one son, Sean Toussaint Demarets; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, four sisters and his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Louise Hebert Demarets.
Visitation for Leroy will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St., Lake Charles, LA 70605. Visitation will continue Friday, March 3, 2023, at 10 a.m. until funeral time at 11 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
