Sulphur pair accused of abusing 5-year-old

On Feb. 13, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives were dispatched after receiving a complaint in reference to possible abuse of a 5-year-old.
During the investigation, the child was transported to a local hospital to be examined. Detectives observed a large amount of severe bruising on the victim’s buttocks as well as bruising to her face and eyelids. Detectives learned John B. Baham, 30, Sulphur, was responsible for the physical abuse. Detectives also discovered methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia in the home, in a location that was easily accessible to the child.
Baham, who is a registered sex offender, was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with cruelty to juveniles; possession of CDS II; and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Judge Tony Fazzio set his bond at $552,500.

After further investigation, detectives learned Kellie, M. Turner, 30, Sulphur, observed Baham physically abuse the victim on more than one occasion and failed to report the abuse to law enforcement. Turner also advised deputies she had been in possession of the methamphetamines that was previously found in the home.
On Feb. 22, Turner was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with cruelty to juveniles; possession of CDS II; and illegal use of CDS in the presence of a person under 17. Judge Tony Fazzio set her bond at $157,000.
Baham was convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile in 2011 and indecent behavior with a juvenile in 2014, both in Calcasieu Parish.
