Allen James Viator

Allen James Viator, 90, of Lake Charles, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, in a local hospital.
Mr. Viator was born on July 23, 1932, in Lafayette, where he was raised before moving to Lake Charles. His career brought him to New Iberia for several years before returning to Lake Charles where he lived the rest of his life. Mr. Viator owned and operated a wholesale automobile business named Dixie Motors for more than 50 years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting turkey, dove, and deer as well as watching horse races. He could often be found in the kitchen doing what he loved, cooking for family and friends. His most cherish moments and memories were when he was spending time with his grandchildren and involving himself in their sports and extra activities. Mr. Viator will be remembered for his friendly spirit who never met a stranger.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 71 years, Leatrice Duhon Viator of Lake Charles; daughters, Debbie Theriot (Tommy) of Grand Lake, and D’Lissa Cunningham (David) of Southlake, Texas; sister, Ella M. Viator of Breaux Bridge; and his beloved grandchildren, Dr. Corey Theriot, Cheree Theriot, Catherine Cunningham, and Jac Cunningham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leta and Willie Viator; a son, Dwight Viator; and three brothers, JRoy, Ramsey and Charlie.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Monsignor Harry Greig will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until the start of the service.
