UPDATE: One female, three dogs, one cat die in house fire

One person is dead and another was injured Wednesday in an early morning house fire in DeQuincy. The Ward Six Fire Protection District 1 was dispatched to a house fire in the 1100 block of Rigmaiden Cemetery Road around 6 a.m. Wednesday. Fire crews were told there was a victim trapped inside the home.
Upon arrival, firefighters attempted to enter the residence, but heavy fire and a partial roof collapse forced crews to go into a defensive fire attack, according to information released by Ward Six Fire Protection District 1.
A female victim was later found dead inside the home by firefighters.
A male victim received minor burn injuries while trying to rescue the female occupant. He was able to escape the burning structure.
Three dogs and one cat also died in the fire.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
The investigation has been turned over to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal’s Office.
More information will be released as it becomes available, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office Public Affairs Director Ashley Rodrigue.
The Houston River Fire Department and DeQuincy Volunteer Fire Department were also dispatched as automatic aid. The Sulphur Fire Department, Ward 1 Fire Department, Westlake Fire Department and Beauregard Parish Fire District 2 also responded with mutual aid. Other agencies were placed on standby.
