The Lake Charles City Council unanimously approved an ordinance for the city to enter into a cooperative endeavor agreement with McNeese State University to build the greatly anticipated LNG Center of Excellence.
The proposal for the LNG Center of Excellence was announced in March of 2021. A few months later in June, Louisiana’s Economic Development Administration awarded MSU Foundation a $2.8 million CARES Acts Recovery Assistance grant.
The center will provide facilities that will allow both McNeese students and LNG employees to operate process equipment in a safe, controlled environment, and will also host industry-related conferences and seminars.
McNeese President Daryl Burckel was present at the meeting to express his gratitude.
“I’m thankful for the cooperation and the work that we’ve been doing with the city, not just on this front but on many fronts,” he said. “We’re just excited about our partnership with the city, and we want to thank the mayor, the staff and the city council.”
