A Lake Arthur man was arrested Sunday for vehicular homicide after he fatally struck a bicyclist head-on earlier this month in Vermilion Parish.

Kane G. Leblanc, 20, was arrested by Louisiana State Police Troop I on charges of vehicle homicide, driving on the right side of the road and possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle.

Leblanc was arrested after a routine blood toxicology sample indicated that he was over the legal limit of intoxication.

He was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail on a $50,000.

Allen J. Vincent, 60, of Gueydan was killed after being ejected from his bicycle on La. 717 near Ellie Benoit Road, south of Lake Arthur around 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, according to information released Monday by Louisiana State Police Troop I.

Investigators initially thought Vincent was riding in the wrong lane when he was struck, but later learned otherwise, Trooper Thomas Gossen said.

Through further investigation, troopers determined Vincent was traveling east in the eastbound lane of travel, Gossen said. Leblanc was traveling west in the opposing lane of travel prior to colliding with the bicycle.

Vincent, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected and died at the scene.
