Mildred Josie Shetley, 96, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023.
She was a native of Colorado City, Texas, and had been a resident of the Sulphur area for the last 60 years. Mildred was considered the matriarch of her family who admired her so much that they tended to move wherever she was living. She worked as a hostess for many years at the Sheraton-Chateau Charles before completing her Bachelor’s degree at McNeese and on to work for the State of Louisiana- Child Protective Services as a caseworker. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sons, Michael Ray “Mike” Shetley and wife Therese of Sulphur, and Keith Shetley of Cookeville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Shetley; her parents, John W. and Minnie DeLong; her daughter, Margie King; and numerous siblings.
A Celebration of Mildred’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home led by Hixson Celebrant, Jody Barrilleaux. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the time of service Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss.
