Jerry Douglas Anderson, 74, of Sugartown, La., passed from this life on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023.
After graduating from high school in Chilhowie, Va., Jerry went on to attend Washington County Technical School and joined his father’s family masonry business, continuing a family tradition that included his brother and other members of the community.
Jerry served his country in the Army for two years in the Vietnam War. While stationed in Fort Polk, he met the love of his life, Wanda Young. Jerry’s life was shaped by his love for Wanda and his family, his time in and ongoing love for the Virginia Mountains, his faith, and his time in Vietnam.
Jerry carried on his dedication of service to his community for many years as a brick mason, starting in Chilhowie and then continuing that dedication in Beauregard Parish and the surrounding areas until he retired.
His deep love for the woods and nature’s beauty was one to remember. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and had the utmost respect for the outdoors and wildlife. He shared that connection of the outdoors with his community and his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Wanda Young Anderson of Sugartown, La.; sons, Jason Anderson of Sugartown, La., Jon Anderson and Sylvia of Dry Creek, La.; daughter-in-law, Felisha Anderson of DeRidder, La.; brother, Jimmy Anderson and Diane of Chilhowie, Va.; sister, Gaile Owens of Chilhowie, Va.; grandchildren, Jaron Anderson, Garrett Anderson, Carson Anderson, Bryson Anderson, Lawson Anderson; great-grandchildren, Reese, Bleu, Candance, Jolene; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stuart Anderson; parents, Andrew Carson and Anna James Anderson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Mildred Young; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Dwight Blevins; brother-in-law, Carter Owens.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, La. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, also at Myers Colonial Funeral Home. Brother Frank Ott will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Jaron Anderson, Garrett Anderson, Carson Anderson, Bryson Anderson, Lawson Anderson, Brian Calcote, Kerry Cooley, Reese Anderson and Eric Marler. Burial will follow at Sugartown Cemetery in Sugartown, La.
Services are under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, La.
