Sandra Lucille Taylor Casey

Sandra Lucille Taylor Casey passed away on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at age 86, from complications of pneumonia in Slidell, La.
Sandra was born on Aug. 2, 1936, in Houston, Texas, to parents James Richard Taylor and Beulah Alice Evans Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Elbert Casey DDS, and her daughter, Jennifer Kathleen Casey MD. She is survived by her children, Michael David Casey MD (Kim), Laura Lynn Casey (Chad Chavez), Richard Evans Casey MD (Sherri), Reverend Shannon Trina Casey DeLaureal (Doug), and Robert Taylor Casey (Tajina).
She was the valedictorian of her class of 1954 at Lake Charles High and enjoyed marching in the Kilties. She met her husband Don at First United Methodist Church, and they were married in 1955 by her grandfather. She lived most of her life in Lake Charles, raising her six children. In 1991, she earned her bachelor’s degree in English from McNeese State University.
After working 12 years in Baton Rouge for the Louisiana Teachers’ Retirement System Board of Trustees and the Louisiana Office of Tourism, she retired to Slidell and resided at Summerfield Assisted Living.
Always an avid reader, she collected a large library of books. Other interests included genealogy and ordering Christmas gifts to perfection for all the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was extremely proud of her six children, eleven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday Jan. 7, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, Lake Charles, La.
