Sunny Woodcock drilled three 3-pointers in the third quarter as St. Louis Catholic pulled away from Westlake 55-47 Tuesday night in a District 3-3A win at Hamilton Christian.

Woodcock accounted for all St. Louis (15-5, 3-1) points in a 9-2 run to end the third quarter. The run stretched the Saints lead from five to 12 points. Westlake (10-8, 1-1) didn’t get closer than eight points the rest of the way.

“She gives us another scorer,” Saints head coach Tony Johnson said of Woodcock. “They were playing a triangle-and-two on Paris Guillory and Gabbie Link. We needed someone else to step up and score and she did it for us. Alyk Soileau gave us some baskets near the rim early in the game.”

Westlake trailed by 11 at halftime but opened the second half with an 8-2 run to get within five. Tierra Bargeman and Gabby Guillory each scored three points in the Westlake run.

Johnson said the Saints will need production from the new members of their rotation.

“We’re playing a lot of sophomores and juniors who haven’t been on the floor much,” he said. “They are coming along but there are ups and downs. We need to learn how to play hard all the time.

“Tonight, (Westlake head coach Gloria) Fontenot had a good plan to slow down Paris and Gabbie.”

Woodcock finished with 19 points. Paris Guillory had 10. Gabby Guillory led Westlake with 16 points. Maddy Guillory added 13.

Christian Guillory scored a game-high 23 points and gave the Saints (7-9, 1-0) the lead for good with a basket off an Evan Ezell pass midway through the fourth quarter.

The Rams (7-6, 0-1) had rallied from an 11-point third-quarter deficit to take a 40-39 lead on a Kevin Rideau 3-pointer before Guillory’s basket put the Saints in front for good.

Guillory scored 12 points in the first half to give St. Louis a 20-18 lead. That margin grew to 11 with an 11-2 run to open the second half.

Rideau led Westlake with 14 points while Tristen Goodly added 10.

Bennett McElveen added 10 for St. Louis.
