After taking a leave of absence from the Cowboys, freshman forward Walker Timme has decided transfer from McNeese State.
Timme officially entered the transfer portal Monday, ending his short stay with the Cowboys.
The 6-foot-8 power forward left the program back in November before the first game for what has been reported as personal reasons.
The news of Timme entering the portal did not come as a surprise to McNeese head coach John Aiken.
“When he stepped away from the team we knew this was a possibility,” said Aiken. “This is in the best interest of him and we wish him well.”
Timme is a 2-star recruit from Link Year Preparatory School. His brother is Gonzaga star Drew Timme, who has been a huge part of the Zags success.
Last season Timme averaged 12.8 points and 8.1 rebounds a game in high school, hitting on 56 percent of his shots from the field and 41 percent rom 3-point range.
He also had 4.6 assists a game.
Timme’s news comes just two days after the Cowboys played their most complete game of the season, thumping Lamar 81-62 in the Southland Conference opener
The 19-point margin of victory is a McNeese record for a game played in Beaumont, Texas.
“We played a very unselfish game,” said Aiken. “I was really happy with how connected we were.”
Trae English led a balanced attack with 14 points as all five Cowboy starters scored in double digits. McNeese also had 16 assists.
“That is the way we have to be,” said Aiken. “We have to share the ball.”
McNeese (4-10,1-0) will be back in action Thursday night when the Pokes host Northwestern State in the Legacy Center.
The game will be preceded by a ceremony naming the arena floor after Basketball Hall of Famer and McNeese legend Joe Dumars.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
