Scattered to widespread showers and storms capable of producing damaging winds and heavy downpours will be possible Friday morning as a line of storms moves through the area.

National Weather Service Lake Charles Meteorologist Stacey Denson said a very moist airmass and a mid-level trough are bringing the showers to the region.

“The main severe weather threat will be damaging winds; however, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out,” Denson said.

Along with the possibility for severe weather, these storms will be capable of producing localized flash flooding, especially where storms begin to train across the same locations. Widespread rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches are expected with these storms, along with localized higher amounts.

Weekend temperatures are expected to be in the low 70s. Temperatures were in the mid- to upper 60s most of Thursday with southeast winds gusting to roughly 20-40 mph, Denson said.

“After a warm and muggy end to the year, a return to more seasonal temperatures is expected by the later half of next week,” Denson said.

Denson said a second front will move through the region Monday afternoon bringing another round of heavy rain.
