Dec. 11, 1945 – Dec. 20, 2022
Mr. Bertice “Bert” Gene Conner was born Dec. 11, 1945, in Tenaha, Texas. He passed from this life on Dec. 20, 2022, to go to his eternal home in Heaven. He was the youngest of five children born to the marriage of Drew Pierce and Callie Porter Conner. His older siblings were Gladys-Nell, Wandell, Kenneth and Maude. He graduated from Center High School and went on to travel all over the world with the U.S. Air Force serving as a crew chief from 1964 to 1967.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents in addition to three of his siblings, Gladys-Nell, Kenneth and Maude; and his sons, Sean Patrick Conner of Madisonville, La., and Christopher Pierce Conner of Sulphur, La. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Linda Henshaw Conner of Sulphur, La.; his older sister, Wandell Womack of Tenaha, Texas; daughter, Lisa Conner Taylor (Bobby) of Minden, La.; and her children, Ryan Humphrey (Amy), Alyson Humphrey, and Ashlin Thompson (Heath), all of Shreveport, La.; step-daughter, Amy Hartley (John); and their children and step-children, Tyler Hartley (Erica), Emily Bass, Riley Hartley, Sam Bass and Anslie Hartley, all of Lake Charles, La. His son Sean left behind four of Bert’s grandsons, Alden Conner of Waco, TX, Zachary, Riley and Brody Conner, all of Madisonville, La. Bert also had 6 great-grandchildren, Ryder Humphrey, Reed Thompson, Conner Thompson, Maggie Hartley, Todd Hartley and Leo Hartley.
Bert bought and sold cars his entire life, from being a salesman at many dealerships to becoming an owner of several of his own used car lots. His last car lot was CARS, located on Highway 90 in Sulphur, La. He was a wheeler-dealer and when it came to automobiles he always knew, to the penny, how much money he had put into each. He was kind and fair with all of his customers and knew them by name. He officially retired just earlier this year but continued to dabble in the trade up until the day of his passing.
Bert was passionate about many things, NASCAR and weenie dogs being two of them. He had many dogs throughout his life and the last was his beloved “Puppie.” He never met a stranger and was very friendly and outgoing. He also loved to share his stories with all of his friends.
Bert and Linda were married once in the eyes of the Lord on May 10th, 2011 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sulphur, La., where they were both members. His faith in the Lord was sure and he was thankful for the love of God in Jesus. He was tired and ready to go and be with the Lord even as he looked forward to his Resurrection on the last day. The living Lord who began the good work of faith in his heart brought it to completion as he brought Bert home to be with Him.
His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2023, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor Charlie Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont, Texas. Visitation is from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service Monday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sulphur, La.
