Ceaser scores 28, Iowa wins Mallett Builders tournament, Bell City takes girls title

IOWA — Dashawn Ceaser continued to pour in points while leading the host Yellow Jackets to an 83-53 win over Elton in the boys championship game of the Mallett Builders tournament.
Ceaser scored 28 points in leading Iowa to its tenth straight win to start the season.
Elton’s only lead came at 2-0, though the Indians stayed in reach for most of the first three quarters.
Iowa answered Elton’s opening basket with an 18-4 run, with Desamonte Gradney scoring eight points in the outburst.
Elton pulled within seven at 35-28 late in the second quarter on consecutive 3-pointers by Sherman Bellow.
Ceaser scored the final seven points of the half to take a 42-28 lead at the break.
Elton didn’t get closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Gradney finished with 16 points and Landon Langley added 14 for the Yellow Jackets.
Jadon Ross scored 19 to lead Elton. Bellow finished with 12 points and Demarcus Jack added 11.
Ceaser scored 31 in Iowa’s semifinal win over Sulphur.

Kate Leonard scored the go-ahead basket on a drive with 17 seconds left.
Hathaway had two chances to tie or win the game, but Bell City’s Payton Herpin blocked a Hornet 3-point attempt and two Hathaway shots rolled off the rim in the final seconds.
The lead changed hands six times in the fourth quarter, when neither team led by more than three points.
Mary Wicke made back-to-back three-pointers for Bell City. Hathaway’s Lamiyah Sanchez scored 12 of her game-high 28 points in the final frame.
Wicke led Bell City with 14 points.
