Richard J “Dick” Wilson

Richard James “Dick” Wilson, age 94, of Vinton, La., passed away in his home on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022. Richard was born on Dec. 5, 1928, in Fenton, La., to Elza and Lillie Wilson.
Richard moved to Vinton in 1936, graduated from Vinton High School, and married his High School sweetheart in 1951, Dorothy Bahnsen. Richard worked for himself farming soybeans, rice, and cattle. Richard was one of the founding members of Calcasieu Parish Farm Bureau, was on the board of directors of the Vinton Co-op Drier, served on the Calcasieu-Cameron Soil Conservation Service, and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Kathleen Eason; and twin brother, Robert “Bob” Wilson.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Jimmy Wilson and companion Debbie Meche; son, Gary Wilson and wife Kathy; grandchildren, Alicia Istre and Lance Wilson; great-grandchildren, Mary Claire and Garet Istre, Austin, Dylan, Marrio, Sophia, and Cannan Wilson; a host of nieces and nephews; and other extended family members.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. A Rosary will begin at 6 p.m. and visitation will resume at 8 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, in Hixson Funeral Chapel with Deacon Jesse Menard officiating. Burial will follow in Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly.
