AT&T service interruption leaves many in SW La. without phone service, email use

Damaged fiber cables have caused AT&T-provided service outages around Southwest Louisiana — including at the American Press‘ downtown offices.
A statement from AT&T reads “our technicians are working as quickly and safely as possible to make repairs to two fiber cables. These fiber cuts are affecting internet and wireless services for some customers in the Lake Charles area.”
Roy Bertucci, executive director of information technology at Sowela Technical Community College said the outage was caused when a fiber was cut in Shreveport.
The city of Lake Charles said it is experiencing phone issues due to the AT&T service interruption. All city facilities, including fire and police, are experiencing intermittent service outages on city landlines and cell phones.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office’s phones lines are out of service and incoming calls cannot be received at this time, spokesperson Kayla Vincent said. It is not known how long it will take to repair the problem. To reach the Sheriff’s Office for non-emergencies, call 337-602-6801. For all emergencies, call 911 and those calls will be routed to the Sheriff’s Office.
