An increased law enforcement presence was visible Monday morning at South Beauregard High School following an alleged threat to harm students and faculty was made on social media.
As of Monday afternoon, Beauregard Parish Sheriff Mark Herford said detectives have begun interviewing some people, with more potential interviews still to be conducted as they follow up on all possible leads in their investigation into the threat.
“If we can identify the person or persons responsible for this, I intend to arrest them and attempt to have them prosecuted to the fullest extent possible,” Herford said.
The threat alluded to harming people at the school on Monday morning and possibly on Tuesday, and while it may not have offered any specific information, Herford said his office is taking the message very seriously.
He said extra security will return Tuesday morning and possibly for the remainder of the week.
“The safety of the kids, faculty and staff are our first priority,” Herford said.
