Beatrice Marie Demarest, 83, of Grand Lake, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, in a local healthcare facility.
Mrs. Demarest was born Dec. 24, 1938, in Lake Arthur to Clifton Alexander Demarest and Lillian Mae Fuselier Demarest. She was raised in Lacassine and was a graduate of Lacassine High School. Mrs. Demarest lived most of her adult life in Grand Lake. She married the love of her life on June 1, 1957, and took great pride in devoting her life and love to her husband and children. She was an extremely devoted wife and never left her husband’s side during his long battle with cancer. As she raised her family, she worked as a hair dresser from home, creating quite a following of clientele. She obtained a License in Cosmetology from Demmons School of Beauty in Lake Charles and proudly opened her hair shop, known to all as “The Beahive” where she worked for more than thirty five years. Mrs. Demarest was also a gifted seamstress. She sewed clothing for all of her children, created unique Christmas stockings for each grandchild and affectionately designed and made a Christening Gown that was worn by every grandchild for their christening. Her downtime was often spent working in her yard. She loved laughing and playing cards and dominoes with friends and family. Everyone knew she always cooked for Sunday gatherings of family and many just “showed up” to indulge. Mrs. Demarest was a lady of grace and faith, and very devoted catholic. Mrs. Demarest also served as secretary to the Evergreen Ministries, in honor of her beloved Timmy. She will be most remembered for her love of laughter, her faith in God and her love of all things family.
She leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Timothy “Timmy” Demarest of Pineville, Shelley Lavergne (Daniel) of Grand Lake and their children: Billy, Travis, Jami and Jonathan; Tina Barrett (Tom) of Grand Lake and their children: Matthew and Sydney; Michael Demarest (DeeAnna) of Longville and their children, Brittany, Erica, Hannah and Allie; and Nathan Demarest (Leah) of Lacassine and their son, Mitchell; twelve great grandchildren; three sisters, Bonnie Langley of Baton Rouge, Diana Gotreaux (C.J.) and Claudell Deshotel (Jerry) of Lacassine and her dear cousin, Sylvia Demarest.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Carroll Demarest; her parents and three infant brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Saturday will be from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with a Rosary service beginning at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
Pallbearers for her services will be Billy Clark, Matt Breaux, Erica Demarest, Jonathan Lavergne, Mitchell Demarest, Jospeh Demarest and Carlton Gotreaux.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Evergreen Ministries, 920 Main Street, Pineville, LA 71360 or Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation at oif.org.
