George Lee Ackleson, age 94, of Westlake, La. passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022 surrounded by love and family.
George was a United States Air Force Veteran during the Korean War. He retired from Conoco Refinery after serving as an Operator for over 30 years. George was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, Westlake, La. He proudly served with the Calcasieu Council on Aging as a driver for Meals on Wheels, was a member of the Lake Area Runners Club, member of Ward 4 Recreation Board in Westlake serving in various positions and was an avid sports participant and fan. He loved puzzles, traveling, playing tennis and watching the Atlanta Braves.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Jennie Ackleson; sons, Thomas Ackleson and Michael Ackleson; brother, Ed Ackleson; grandaughter, Jessica Mills; and great-grandson, Chance.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Thelma Craig Ackleson of Westlake, La.; daughter, Judy Vander Luit and husband, Martin of Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada; daughter-in-law, Diane Ackleson of Lake Charles, La.; sister, Nancy Mason of Ridley Park, Pa.; five grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 21, 2022, from 2 p.m. until time of service. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Hixson Funeral Home Chapel, Westlake, with Celebrant Jody Barrilleaux officiatiing. Cremation was entrusted to Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake.
