Judy Dugas Hannan

Judy Dugas Hannan, age 80, passed away peacefully on Oc. 15, 2022, in Pensacola, Fla. Judy was born on Feb. 23, 1942, in Lake Charles, La., to Cyrus Arthur Dugas and Julia Ann Masterson Dugas. She is survived by her children, her son, Jon Eric Hannan; her daughter, Erin Elisa Hannan; and her sister, Barbara Dee Dugas.
Judy attended St. Charles Academy, graduating with the class of 1960. She went on to earn a B.A. and an M.A. in Education at McNeese College, now McNeese State University. She was an Alpha Delta Pi sorority sister.
Judy married Michael E. Hannan of Westlake, La., deceased in 2001. The family traveled and lived abroad for 20 years including, Argentina, Peru, Tunisia, Australia, and Thailand. Judy became involved in cultural and community activities everywhere she lived. She loved to cook and joined supper clubs overseas, learning to prepare the local cuisines. She was generous with gifts and objets d’art from these exotic places to her family.
Her career after graduation included teaching at Rosteet Elementary School. Eventually returning to Lake Charles, Judy worked in the mental health field including as a peer counselor for Volunteers of America. Later she worked for the Louisiana State Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health, traveling around the state.
Judy and her sister, Barbara, traveled for leisure around the country and enjoyed several trips to Europe. She loved her community of friends. In Lake Charles she participated in a book club of friends, and was an enthusiastic volunteer for Banners, Rouge et Blanc, and the restoration of Camp Wi-Ta-Wentin.
Judy will be interred next to her mother and father in Orange Grove-Graceland Cemetery. We love you and miss your beauty, kindness, and intelligence. Judy, you are forever in our hearts and memories.
