A juvenile student is facing a terrorizing charge after allegedly leaving a disturbing note at Jennings High School.

Additional arrests are expected, according to Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Chris Ivey.

The student, who was not identified due to their age, was arrested Wednesday for terrorizing and released to a guardian.

Law enforcement began investigating the incident Oct. 10 after Jennings High School faculty found a threatening note and reported it to school resources deputies.

The threat was determined to be unfounded.

The student was identified as the person who wrote a note threatening to “shoot up” the school, Ivey said.

The student’s parents/guardian were notified and arrived at the school shortly after being contacted, he said.

As part of the investigation, Ivey said detectives obtained statements and reviewed video recorded footage of the school areas where the threatening note was found.

School officials and law enforcement are taking a zero tolerance stand on pranks made by students and others, Ivey said.

Several fake active shooter threats have recently occurred in Louisiana and other states. Such pranks cause disruption in schools and divert law enforcement from other necessary duties, Ivey said.

“The safety of the students and faculty are foremost in the minds of deputies that work at the schools every day,” he said. “Stunts and practical jokes hurting people will be dealt with seriously and perpetrators will be punished.”

Prank threats throughout the parish have led to a number of school lockdowns since the school year began.

The Jeff Davis Parish School Board recently formed a School Safety Task Force to address concerns including developing steps to address threats and implement safety procedures for students and faculty at all schools. The task force is a joint partnership between the Jeff Davis Parish District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff’s Office and School Board.

Additional security measures, to include secure entrances, are also being implemented at the schools.
