What is the most interesting game involving a Class 2A team?
WA: Vinton beat Merryville 21-18 in its belated season-opener last week and takes a step up in class this week when it hosts Westlake, a talented Class 3A team.
RA: Rosepine at Kinder. This one used to be a district game until Kinder moved up to Class 3A this season. Rosepine is rolling with new quarterback Jake Smith (481 yards, 9 TD) and a staunch defense (6.5 ppg). Kinder is looking to bounce back after a season opening loss to Church Point after they led 30-22 in the third quarter.
What is the best game involving a Class 1A team?
WA: Basile takes on parish rival Sacred Heart- Ville Platte. The Bearcats will be looking to avenge a 19-0 loss from last season, when Sacred Heart held Basile to 98 rushing yards, its lowest total of the season.
RA: Elton at Montgomery. The Indians are 2-0 for the first time since starting the 2017 season 4-0 and go on the road to take on winless Montgomery, who has struggled on offense (6 ppg). Elton has been powered by the one-two running back duo of DeMarcus Jack and Sherman Bellows, who have accounted for 64 of Elton’s 97 points.
Name a player to watch.
WA: Oakdale’s Cedric Allison ran for 301 yards and scored five touchdowns to the lead the Warriors past Oberlin in Week 2. Allison scored on runs of 13, 13, 62 and 80 yards and returned a kickoff 75 yards for another touchdowns.
RA: In his first game as Welsh’s lead back, Kennon LeGros proved he is the work horse the Greyhounds need with 32 carries for 213 yards and two scores.
