A man wanted in connection with the shooting death of an Oakdale man in August was captured Tuesday in Calcasieu Parish by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
Oakdale Police Chief Chad Doyle said marshals found Malcom Pugh, 21, attempting to hide at a residence in Sulphur. He was arrested without incident.
Pugh has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Anthony Rakestraw, 25, on Aug. 5 in Oakdale.
Pugh was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Jail and later transferred to the Allen Parish Jail where he is being held without bond on a second-degree murder charge. Additional charges are pending, Doyle said.
Charges are also expected to be filed against those who assisted Pugh in eluding authorities.
On Friday, Aug. 5, around 4 p.m., the Oakdale Police Department responded to the area of Arkansas Street near La. 372 after receiving reports of someone being shot during a fight. When officers arrived, the victim had already been transported to the hospital by someone at the scene, Doyle said.
Rakestraw died of his injuries on Aug. 8.
Authorities had been following leads in searching for Pugh since the shooting.
Doyle said the U.S. Marshals Office was able to obtain information that led to Pugh’s capture.
The Calcasieu Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Lake Charles Police Department assisted the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force in locating and arresting Pugh.
