Grand Lake flexbone dominant in season opener

Grand Lake rolled up than 400 yards on the ground in a dominant 52-6 season-opening win over Hamilton Christian.
Fullback Ian Vigo powered the Hornets, running for 197 yards and four touchdowns in the first half as the Hornets built a 40-6 lead.
Vigo scored on runs of 3, 20, 32 and 47 yards. Brent Hardesty scored Grand Lake’s first touchdown on a five-yard run. Brycen Guillory added a 17-yard run in the first half for the Hornets.
Hamilton’s score came on a 57-yard run by eighth grader Javon Vital, who scrambled down the right sideline and cut back across the field on a spectacular run.
The Warriors were plagued by turnovers early, losing three fumbles in the first half. Connor Guillotte returned the first 25 yards to set up Vigo’s first touchdown, a 20-yard burst on the next play from scrimmage.
The second Hamilton drive also ended with a lost fumble. The ensuing Grand Lake drive ended with a 3-yard Vigo touchdown run.
The Hornets added a pair of second half scores on a 47-yard run by Kaden Taylor and a 25-yard run by Charles McFarland.
Hardesty ran for 77 yards and Guillory added 54 for Grand Lake.
Vital led Hamilton with 68 yards on three carries. Davion Hall had three receptions for 27 yards and added 12 yards rushing.
