In this edition of the Three Point Stance, Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux discuss Week 1 games involving area small schools.
What is the most interesting game?
WA: Grand Lake at Hamilton Christian. The Warriors edged the Hornets in a district showdown last season and comes in with momentum after a win last week. Grand Lake may struggle early since their jamboree game was canceled.
RA: Kinder at Welsh. The long-time district rivals will faceoff in what could be another close battle. Kinder won 29-28 after scoring the go-ahead two-point conversion with 1:29 left.
Name a Class 1A player to watch.
WA: East Beauregard’s Caleb Johnson is an elite athlete who provides big plays in a variety of roles in the Trojans offense. He’ll need to be in top form to help the Trojans keep up with a Rosepine offense powered by running back Grant Ducote.
RA: Basile quarterback Luc Johnson helped lead the Bearcats on a late 7-game win streak last season. With more maturity and experience, he looks to lead the Bearcats to their first win a season opener since 2015.
Name a Class 2A player to watch.
WA: Vinton’s Logan Beard scored on a long touchdown run and set up another score with a long reception to lead the Lions to a jamboree win over Pickering last week. He’ll lead the Lions against Oakdale this week.
RA: Lake Arthur’s Ray Levi is making a smooth transition from an all-district wide receiver to quarteback. Last week, the junior threw for a pair of touchdowns and a two-point conversion in the Tigers’ 28-7 jamboree win over Elton.
