The Cowboys will officially close out camp tonight with a dress rehearsal that will be nothing more than a walk-through.

McNeese State will conduct a “mock game” inside Cowboy Stadium at 6 p.m. today.

“If I wake up Saturday and it doesn’t look like we have a window to play through then we are not going to sit around all day,” first-year head coach Gary Goff said.

Today will be treated like a normal game day ranging from walk-up calls through breakfast, meetings and wearing uniforms. Only thing missing will be no pads and no hitting, Goff said.

The focus has turned to the season opener in a week at Montana State. The game is a sellout in the 17,000-plus seat Bobcat Stadium.

“We will begin fully working on the opener starting Monday,” Goff said. “We still have work to do.”

As for the players, they are ready to go.

“We just want to hit somebody else,” said linebacker Brayden Adams. “I’m excited to get the season going and go up there and play a good team.”

The Bobcats are coming off last year’s national runner-up season and ranked as high as second in some polls.

“They are a very good team and will be a great challenge,” Goff said. “This is an opportunity to see where we are.”

The battle for starting quarterback is coming down to the wire with both Cam Ransom and Kade Knox showing both good and bad. Goff said he will start giving one of the guys about 80 percent of the snaps beginning Monday.

“You have to get the one guy ready,” Goff said without flinching when asked who that guy would be.

McNeese made news by rewarding two more players with the T.A.D. Tag as team captain.

Adams and offensive lineman Calvin Barkat earned the honor recently, giving the Cowboys four.

“It is a real honor and something I try to bring to practice every day,” said Adams.
