DeQuincy runs to win over LaGrange

SULPHUR — DeQuincy used its split-back veer offense and large stable of backs to run to a 21-12 win over LaGrange on Friday at the SPOT Therapy/Navarre Auto Group Jamboree.

DeQuincy averaged more than five yards a carry, picking up 188  on 37 plays.

Four backs had at least 37 yards, led by Eathan Guidry, who had 50 on seven carries. Quarterback Reese Asthworth had 44 yards and two touchdowns on 12 touches and Mikah Kerlegan added 37 yards and a score on seven carries. Ronnie Courville had seven carries for 38 yards.

DeQuincy ran 11 consecutive running plays on its first drive and took a 7-0 lad on a 2-yard run by Ashworth.

LaGrange used its quick strike ability to cut the deficit to 7-6 on a 5-yard pass from Jason Wilson to Omarion Randolph. But DeQuincy went 51-yards on its next drive, including its only pass of the game, a 33-yard catch by DaCorius Griffin, to go up 14-6 on a Ashworth’s 2-yard keeper.

DeQuincy scored on another long drive, 15-plays, 66 yards, in the second half with Kerlegan scoring from 4-yards out.

Wilson threw his second touchdowns pass late in the second half, an 18-yarder to Devarius Carrier.

Wilson completed 7 of 10 passes for 131 yards and Kaylb Mitchell caught three passes for 72 yards.
