A Crowley man who Jennings police say shot a local man early Monday on the city’s south side has been apprehended.

Dandre Javonte Nixon, 26, of Crowley was taken into custody without incident Thursday by the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Nixon was arrested without incident in a yard at a residence on Grand Marais Road in Hathaway, according to Jennings Police Chief Danny Semmes.

Nixon is facing a charge of attempted second-degree murder in connection with the shooting that occurred on South Main Street near Sumner Street shortly after 3:30 a.m. Monday.

The 33-year-old male victim, who has not been identified, told police he was working on a vehicle that had broken down when the suspect allegedly approached him and shot him twice in the torso. The victim remains in stable condition after undergoing surgery at a Lake Charles hospital.

Nixon fled the scene before police arrived, but was later identified as the suspected shooter after police released images captured from a video camera at a nearby residence. Nixon can be seen standing on the front porch of the residence with a handgun shortly before shots were fired, Semmes said.

Nixon has been arrested 17 times in seven different parishes since 2017 on various charges ranging from drugs to resisting an officer. This is his third attempted murder charge, according to Semmes.

Jennings police arrested Nixon in 2019 for robbery and attempted murder after he robbed a man at gunpoint and took his hot link po-boys, he said.
