Point Stance, staff writers Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux discuss the best games on the high school football schedule.

What is the best large schools district game?

WA: Iowa at Lake Charles College Prep, Week 8. Last year Prep won a district title showdown in Iowa, stopping a last-minute Yellow Jackets drive to hold on for a 27-26 win. The stakes should be high this time around.

RA: DeRidder at Leesville, Week 7. The 100th meeting between the rivals was a high-scoring battle with Leesville coming out on top 48-41 behind six touchdowns from Caleb Gallashaw despite DeRidder jumping out to a 14-0 advantage and leading at halftime. Leesville has controlled the rivalry the last few years, but DeRidder could swing it in its favor this year with a pair of 1,000-yard backs in Ronnie Crosby and Darien Castille.

What is the best small schools district game?

WA: Basile at Oberlin, Week 7. With Grand Lake’s move to Class 2A, these perennial district title contenders could have the crown on the line. Both play an old-school physical style. Basile won 20-13 last year.

RA: Rosepine at Avoyelles, Week 9. Rosepine dominated District 5-2A last year but finds itself in a new district and its biggest threat to winning District 4-2A is Avoyelles. The Mustangs lost two games by a combined six points to 2A state runner-up Many last season.

What is the best nondistrict game?

WA: Kinder at Welsh, Week 1. The former district rivals get the season started in style. Both teams return a majority of starters from last year and will be looking to open the year with a statement win.

RA: Grand Lake at Hamilton Christian, Week 1. Another great battle of former district rivals to open the season. Hamilton won 24-21 last year with a winning drive, scoring with 14 seconds left. The game will pit the Hornets’ old-school split-back veer offense and the Warriors’ new Air Raid offense under first-year head coach Ragan McDaniel.
