If you know who Hank is in the song, Hank Crankin’ People and you are proud to be one, know Jamie Bergeron didn’t make a name for himself with beef jerky and know you can’t keep still when Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie begins, you probably don’t want to miss the Marshland Festival, Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30, to be held this weekend at the Lake Charles Civic Center.
Many Southwest Louisiana festivals bring in great musical entertainment, but The Marshland Festival does it in spades, American country, classic country, Christian, old R&B, Cajun, swamp pop, zydeco, classic and southern rock, all under one roof with air conditioning, especially appreciated now during one of Southwest Louisiana’s hottest summers.
“I love all genres of music,” said Marvin Simon, vice president of the Marshland Festival board and owner of Deep South Productions, “and we are blessed, fortunate to live in an area and belong to a culture where we have access to extraordinarily talented musicians with such a range of genres.”
Simon said the Marshland Festival level of entertainment goes up each year and he wasn’t aware of any other event that allows concert goers to enjoy eight shows featuring great musical talent for $20 (Saturday’s admission price) or five concerts for $15 (Friday’s admission price). The festival even includes a Sony Music Nashville singer-songwriter. Proceeds go to Hackberry youth.
In addition to hearing a range of music genres performed by local and out-of-state talent, take the opportunity to visit Marshland Festival craft vendors and graze the day away with plenty of Cajun food vendors to choose from. Bring the family. Games will be provided for children.
The music lineup for Friday, July 29 is Casey Peveto, 5 p.m.; Twisted X, 6 p.m.; Ryan Foret, 7:30 p.m.; Geno Delafonse, 9 p.m. and Creed Fisher, 10:30 p.m.
The music lineup for Saturday, July 30, is LA Express, 12 p.m.; Steel Shot, 1:30 p.m.; Stephen Paul, 3 p.m.; Clay Cormier; 4:30 p.m.; Waters Edge, 6 p.m.; Parish County Line, 7:30 p.m.; Jamie Bergeron, 9 p.m.; and Tyler Booth, 10:30 p.m.
