Bettie Gilbeaux Roy

Bettie Gilbeaux Roy, 92, of Lake Charles passed away at 12:32 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 in a local care facility.
Mrs. Roy was born on Sept. 3, 1929, in Lake Charles, where she was raised and was a graduate of Lake Charles High School. She graduated at the age of 17 and began working as a secretary in the office for Mr. Ford for the next two years. In her earlier years she worked as a bookkeeper for T. Miller and Sons Building Supply Company and Tonice LaFleur Construction. In 1971 she and her husband moved to Baton Rouge where they resided until she returned to Lake Charles in 1999. She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church.
She was active in Beta Sigma Phi where she held many officer positions and was awarded “Sweetheart of the Year” title. Mrs. Roy was known for her Chocolate cakes, lasagna, and brisket. She was also gifted in sewing and sewed her own clothes as well as her children’s.
Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Carol Roy Comeaux (Rickie) of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Angel R. Ogea (Free) of Lake Charles, Joseph Craig Comeaux of Lake Charles, Jerry Roy of Vinton, Jason Roy (Tessa) of Iowa, Christopher Hawkins (Brandi) of Walker, La., and Michele Hawkins (fiancé Justin Walker) of Denham Springs; step grandsons, Rickie and Randy Comeaux; great-grandchildren, Trevor Fontenot (Alana) of Lake Charles, Eric, Kayla and Ian Roy of Iowa, Joseph and Carter Hawkins of Walker, La., and Kailyn Ardoin of Baltimore, Md.; and step great-grandson, Andrew Ogea (Victoria). She also leaves behind her beloved calico companion, Calli.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Joseph L. Roy; daughter, Catherine Roy Hawkins; son, Richard L. Roy; parents, Ulysee and Esther Gilbeaux; and a brother, Conway Gilbeaux.
A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at St. Margaret Catholic Church. The Rev. Nathan Long will officiate. Visitation will begin at Johnson Funeral Home at 10 a.m. until leaving for the church at 1:30 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 12 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday in Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge.
