The Jeff Davis Parish Police has launched a new website that officials hope will make local information and resources more accessible to residents and visitors.

“We still have a few categories under development, but most of the website and up and running,” Police Juror Technology Committee Chairman Chad Talbot said.

Talbot said the website is a “great start” in providing local information in a centralized location.

The website makes it easier for the public to assess information on the parish including ordinances, zoning, permit information and applications, and zoning. The site also provides information on adjudication sales, meeting schedules and contact information for Police Jury officials.

A link is also available to the parish’s new Geographic Information System (GIS). The mapping system provides multiple layers of useful digital information and data including information on traffic counts, flood zones, assessment values and related parcel information.

“All this information is extremely valuable because now instead of someone having to call or visit the office in-person, they can go on the website and get the information they need,” Talbot said, noting that the information is accessible from a cell phone, iPad, laptop or desk computer.

Talbot said police jurors began working on the website last year, but progress was slowed because of the amount of information that was needed to be collected from various entities and formatted for the website.

“It’s exciting because it allows us to catch up with the times,” he said. “The parish has never had a website until now.”

Information on the website will be updated as needed.

The parish used $5,000 in landfill revenue for economic development to create the website.
