PREP NOTEBOOK: Myers transfers to Div. I Troy, Frey, Guidry earn more honors

DeQuincy catcher Reese Ashworth committed to play college baseball at LSU-Eunice.
Ashworth hit .427 with 5 home runs and 37 RBIs as a junior. As a pitcher, Ashworth was 4-5 with a 3.83 ERA and 81 strikeouts.
Ashworth also plays football and basketball for the Tigers, serving as the starting quarterback in football.
MOVING UP: Former Jennings star Kole Myers signed to play baseball with Troy University after spending the past two seasons at LSU-Eunice. As a sophomore, Myers hit .317 with 4 home runs, 40 RBIs and 58 stolen bases for the Bengals. LSU-Eunice went 40-17 on the season, losing to Pearl River Community College in the Region 23 tournament.
Myers starred in football and baseball at Jennings, leading the Bulldogs to the 2017 semifinals as starting quarterback.
ALL-AMERICAN: Fairview slugger Rylee Cloud was selected to play in the Premier Girls Fastpitch All American softball game, which will feature 44 of the top players in America.
The game will be played July 30 in Irvine, California and broadcast on ESPNU.
Cloud, an Arkansas signee, was selected to the East team. As a senior, Cloud hit .712 with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs. Cloud was ranked the No. 24 recruit in the country by Extra Innings Softball.
ALL REGION: Rosepine’s Ethan Frey and Barbe’s Gavin Guidry were selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Region 6 All Region team.
Frey hit .487 with 13 home runs, 64 RBIs and 28 runs scored. As a pitcher, he was 5-0 with 2 saves and a 0.77 ERA. He struck out 43 batters in 27 innings pitched.
Guidry was 8-0 as a pitcher with a 0.16 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched. He hit .422 with 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and 40 runs scored.
The Region 6 area includes Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Arkansas.
Frey was also named an ABCA All-American, selected as the third team catcher. He was the only state player named to an All-American team.
HEAD OF CLASS: Barbe’s Landon Victorian is ranked as the seventh-best player nationally in the Class of 2024 by Perfect Game USA. As a sophomore, Victorian was 10-1 with a 1.04 ERA. In 74 innings pitched, he allowed 28 hits while striking out 94 batters.
