A Mittie man died early Friday after rear ending a logging truck just west of La. 26 and La. 377 in Allen Parish.

The accident claimed the life of 25-year-old Andrew E. Spears, according to Trooper First Class Derek Senegal.

The fatality report from Louisiana State Police Troop D said Spears was headed west in a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser around 5:30 a.m., when for unknown reasons, he struck the rear of an 18-wheeler log truck on La. 26.

Spears, who was not properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the log truck was properly restrained and was not injured.

Toxicology samples were obtained from Spears and the driver of the log truck and submitted for analysis, Senegal said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Troop D has investigated 12 fatal crashes resulting in 14 deaths this year.
