Sulphur man pleads guilty to vehicular homicide

A 30-year-old Sulphur man arrested earlier this year in a bicycle-vehicle hit-and-run that left a 15-year-old dead pleaded guilty this week to vehicular homicide.

Calcasieu Parish District Attorney spokesperson Bethany Bryant said Marcus K. Pentecost also pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Judge Clayton Davis on Tuesday sentenced Pentecost to 20 years in prison on the vehicular homicide charge and 20 years on the possession charge. Both sentences are without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent previously told the American Press that Pentecost was traveling northbound on Lewis Street on Jan. 27 when he struck the bicyclist from behind and fled the area.

Vincent said the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pentecost was later located and arreated at his residence, also on Lewis Street. He was initially charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-andrun, operating a vehicle under suspension and carless operation.

Judge Tony Fazzio set his original bond at $85,500.
