St. Amant routs W. Monroe, captures Class 5A state championship

SULPHUR — Addison Jackson pitched a perfect game and hit a home run to lead the the St. Amant Gators to a 10-0, five-inning rout of West Monroe in the Class 5A championship game Saturday at the state softball tournament at Frasch Park.
Jackson struck out four while retiring all 15 West Monroe (24-6) batters. She homered and doubled in two trips to the plate to earn Most Outstanding Player honors.
Alex Franklin and Samantha Landaiche also hit homers for St. Amant (28-2).
West Monroe had scored 40 runs in its previous four playoff games.
Class 4A
N. DeSoto 11
Franklin Parish 1, 5 inns.
Ciara Orgeron and Aly Delafield hit homers to lead the Griffins (33-5) to a second consecutive state championship.
Franklin Parish (19-11) took an early lead when leadoff hitter Taylor Southern singled and scored on a passed ball. But North DeSoto stormed back with three runs in the second inning.
Lacey Johnson threw a complete game for the win, allowing three hits and striking out one.
The title was North DeSoto’s fifth since 2015.
Class 2A

Port Barre 0
Senior Tia Holmes pitched her third shutout of the playoffs to lead the top-ranked Many Tigers to their second consecutive championship.
Holmes struck out six and walked one while holding the Red Devils (26-5) to five hits to earn Most Outstanding Player honors.
Junior Kirsten Martinez started the scoring for the Tigers (28-5) with an RBI double in the second inning, and senior Camryn Ford hit a two-run home run, her ninth of the season, in the third inning.
Port Barre, playing in the final for the first time since 2002, got a runner to third in the first and third innings but came up empty.
Class 1A
Montgomery 8
LaSalle 3
Montgomery (31-1) stormed out of the gates with five runs over the first two innings to knock off defending champion and district rival LaSalle, which played in its fifth consecutive 1A title game.
Taylor Gongre hit a two-run double in the first inning and Chloe Miller added an RBI double in the second.
Miller reached base three times and drove in two runs. Zoey Fitts added three hits and an RBI.
Landri Campbell led LaSalle (26-5) with two hits and two RBIs. Allie Murphrey added three hits, all for extra bases with two doubles and a triple.
Class B

Anacoco 4
The Rockets (24-8) continued their dominance of Class B with a fifth consecutive state championship and second straight win over the Indians (22-9).
Gracie Duffy blasted two home runs and had three hits to earn Most Outstanding Player. Kacey Breithaudt and Taylor Douglas also hit home runs for Holden.
Ava Davis hit a leadoff home run for Anacoco. Bailey Davis had three hits, including two doubles, and scored two runs.
Douglas struck out nine and didn’t issue a walk.
Class C
Calvin 11
Harrisonburg 1, 5 inns.
SULPHUR — Freshman Haley Martin got the job done in the circle and at plate and No. 1 Calvin won back-to-back championships.
Martin, the Most Outstanding Player, struck out five and walked one against No. 2 Harrisonburg (17-8). At the plate, Martin 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Harrisonburg score its lone run on an error in the top of the first inning, but the Cougars (16-9) took the lead in the bottom half with two runs on an error.
Lauren Trawick helped Calvin pull away with a two-run single in the second inning.
Lilly Barnes was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Calvin.
