Barbe opened its quest for another state championship with a dominant 5-1 win over Pineville in a Class 5A bi-district round game at Joe Miller Ballpark.

The top seeded Bucs (33-2) will host the winner of Tuesday’s Destrehan-Airline game in a best-of-three regional round series this weekend.

Sophomore Landon Victorian extended his two-year winning streak to 14 games with five shutout innings.

“We’ve had some good ones here, but he has a chance to be the best,” Barbe head coach Glenn Cecchini said.

“He’s a real competitive kid and was dominant tonight”

Victorian struck out five and retired the first nine batters he faced.

JC Vanek led the Barbe offense with two triples, a single and a walk. He scored the first Barbe run on a single by Blake Moss and drove in the second with a single to score Crawford Courville.

Presley Courville tripled to score Donnie Sandifer in the fourth inning. Owen Galt singled to score Vanek in the fifth and a pair of Rebel errors led to a Barbe run in the sixth.

Pineville (15-19) scored in the sixth on a Chas Kelly single and Brady Huffman double.

“We had good, timely hitting tonight, a few big hits with two outs,” Cecchini said. “Pineville was tough. They made a few outstanding plays on defense and have a few really good players.”
