DeRidder man, 32, missing for three months

It has been three months since Ryan Heflin left his parents’ home and vanished without a trace.
The 32-year-old had been staying with his parents in their Beauregard Parish home since November, having moved back home from Tennessee for a chance to get a fresh start in his life.
Heflin’s father, Tommy Heflin, described his son as a “communicator” and said it was out of character for Heflin to not be in regular contact with his parents – especially his mother.
“They spoke to each other every day, even when Ryan lived away. The two of them always talked,” Heflin stated.
Heflin was struggling with depression, his father said, and had recently lost his job. His parents were trying to help their son get to “a better place” mentally, they said.
On Jan. 19, Ryan Heflin left their house, telling them he “needed a break” from things. He has not been seen or heard from since.
“We are at a total loss. Not to hear from him by now is not normal at all,” Heflin stated.
Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Detective Sylvester Denmond said he shares Heflin’s parents’ concern and confusion.
Denmond said that investigators at BPSO have tapped into multiple resources in an attempt to locate Heflin, and have been left with more questions than answers.
“This case is very unique and incredibly frustrating because we have had zero possible sightings and absolutely no information on where Mr. Heflin is or even could be,” Denmond stated.
Heflin left his parents’ home in his tan-colored 1998 Chevrolet single cab pickup truck with several unique markings that would make it very recognizable. The vehicle has a Mario and Luigi decal on the driver’s side and has dents on the driver’s side door. It has a factory bed liner, and the letters “Wt” and the word Chevrolet on the tailgate.
“The fact that not one single person has come forward to say they even saw the truck somewhere is very strange to me,” Denmond stated.
Earlier this month, detectives pulled a submerged truck from the waters near the Hopewell Bridge boat launch, but once the truck was pulled to the surface it was evident the vehicle was not Heflin’s.
“It was a dark colored extended cab, and was in no way tied to the Heflin case.,” Denmond stated.
The truck had been reported stolen and the owner was contacted, but Denmond said that only returned investigators back to “ground zero” in their search for Ryan Heflin.
Now, Crimestoppers is offering a reward for any information that could lead to locating Heflin.
“We have not determined that anything has happened to Mr. Heflin at all, but we would like to locate him so that his family can at least have the comfort of knowing that he is ok. We certainly do not want to cause him any problems, but we do want to ensure that he is safe,” Denmond stated.
Denmond said detectives have also contacted hospitals and mental health facilities across the state, but no one matching Heflin’s description has been seen at any of them.
Further complicating the disappearance, Heflin’s father said that his son could not have been able to support himself financially alone. He said Ryan did not possess a credit or debit card, and only had a small amount of cash with him when he left their home that day in January. Heflin also only had half a tank of gas that day.
Heflin was known for being a street performer, but he left behind his guitar and skateboard. Yet another uncharacteristic move, his dad said.
“Those items were very special to him; he didn’t like to be without them,” Heflin stated.
The couple have also reached out to the only known contact of their son from his time living in Tennessee, but that person has also said they have had no contact with Heflin.
Denmond said he hopes that someone with information can come forward to ease the pain Ryan’s parents are enduring.
“At this point, we are reaching dead end after dead end. I really wish for anyone who might have any kind of information to come forward. Any information at all would be appreciated right now,” Denmond stated.
Heflin is described as a white male, 5’8” tall and weighing 160 pounds.
Anyone who believes they have information on Heflin’s whereabouts is asked to call detectives at 337-463-3281.
